Create a Postflow

Updated 18 October 2026 · 2 min read

A Postflow is always-on mail. It connects a published template to items that arrive one by one through the API or an integration, for example a welcome card for every new customer. Each item is one card. Owners, Admins, Editors and Developers can create Postflows.

Before you start

You need a published template. See Publish a version.

Create the Postflow

  1. Open Postflows and choose New Postflow.
  2. Choose the Template. The product follows from it.
  3. Pick the Finish and the Destination the product offers.
  4. Enter a Name and, if you like, a Description.
  5. Under When to send, choose a send rule. See Choose when items are sent.
  6. Open Advanced if you want items to wait for approval, or to choose an advertising category. Addresses that opted out of that category, or of all mail, then receive nothing from this Postflow.
  7. Choose Create Postflow.

The Postflow starts as Active and opens on the Flow tab.

The Flow tab

The Flow tab shows your Postflow as a chain of steps. Choose a step to see or change its settings.

StepWhat it shows
Items from the API or an integrationWhere items come from, the Postflow id your developer or integration needs, and how many items need a fix.
TemplateThe template, the version in use and the version policy.
When to sendThe send rule and the number of held items.
ApprovalOnly when approval is on: the number of items waiting for approval.
Print and sendThe product, finish and destination, the number of ready items and, if your plan shows the schedule, the next production run.

Connect a source

Items reach the Postflow in one of two ways:

  • API: your developer, or any system that can call a web address, creates items with an API key. See API keys for your developers.
  • Integration: a connected app sends items with the Postflow id, for example a flow in Salesforce that calls the "Send Mail Item" action. Under Integrations you see which apps are available.

Your plan may limit the number of active and paused Postflows. The Postflows page shows how many you use.

Want to try it first without printing anything? See Send a test item.
