Map the columns of your file
After the upload, PostBuddy needs to know which column holds what. That is the mapping. Every address field and every field of your template is a target, and you tell PostBuddy which column fills it.
Check the proposal
PostBuddy proposes a mapping from your column names, or from a preset you saved before for the same template. The page shows the number of rows and the columns found, and the first rows of the file so you can check the data.
- Go through the list under Fields. Each target shows whether it is a recipient field or a template variable. Targets marked with an asterisk are required.
- Next to each target, check the expression. A column is written in double curly braces, for example
{{postcode}}. - Fix or fill in what is missing.
- Choose Confirm mapping and process.
The button stays disabled until every required target is mapped. The page names the targets that are still missing.
The targets
| Target | Required |
|---|---|
| name | Yes |
| addressLine1 (street and house number) | Yes |
| addressLine2 | No |
| postalCode | Yes |
| city | Yes |
| country | No. Empty means the Netherlands. |
| Your template fields | Yes when the field is required in the template and has no fallback |
Combine columns and text
An expression can mix columns and fixed text. Some examples:
- Street and number in separate columns:
{{street}} {{number}} - First and last name:
{{first_name}} {{last_name}} - A fixed value for every card:
Spring(no column)
Fill in a name under Save as preset (optional) before you confirm. The next time you upload a file with similar columns for this template, PostBuddy proposes the same mapping.
Warnings in the mapping
A warning above the list tells you, for example, that a column is not used or that an expression refers to a column that does not exist. Unused columns are fine; a missing column must be fixed.
Want to start over? Choose Cancel import. The uploaded file and its mapping are discarded and you can upload again.
After processing, PostBuddy checks every row. Continue with Review and fix rows.
