Preview and proof PDF

Updated 16 October 2026 · 2 min read

Before cards go to print, you can check them in three ways: a live preview in the editor, a preview and proof PDF of a published version, and a printed sample.

Preview in the editor

  1. In the editor, choose Preview.
  2. The card shows sample values for the recipient and your fields. Use the arrows next to Your sample data to move between records.
  3. Under Data, choose Random sample for other values, or Use fallbacks to see a card where every field is empty.
  4. Choose Exit preview to continue designing.

Elements with conditional visibility show or hide as they would on a real card.

Preview and proof PDF of a version

Open the template from Templates. Under Versions, every published version has these actions:

ActionWhat it does
PreviewShows an image of each side of the card.
Proof PDFRenders the version as a PDF with sample data. Choose Download proof PDF when it is ready. The page also tells you how many content issues, such as overflowing text, the sample render found.
Order sampleOrders one printed card of this version, see below.

Check a real item

  • In a Postbatch, choose Proof PDF of a sample item next to the card under review, then Open the proof PDF. It uses a row from your own file.
  • Once an item has been rendered for its production run, open the item menu and choose Production PDF to download the file made for that card.

Order a printed sample

  1. Choose Order sample next to a published version.
  2. Enter the name and address the sample should go to, and the values of your fields.
  3. Confirm the order.

The sample is a paid single card with your sample data. It is sent with the next production run. Ordering samples needs the Samples feature in your plan and the Editor, Developer, Admin or Owner role.

Preview images and PDFs open through short-lived links. Download the file if you want to keep it.
