Address rules and warnings

Updated 16 October 2026 · 2 min read

Every item is checked when it arrives, whether it comes from a Postflow, a Postbatch or the API. A problem never makes PostBuddy refuse the item. Instead, the item gets the status Needs attention with a warning, so you can repair it.

How addresses are cleaned up

PostBuddy tidies every address before checking it. Extra spaces are removed, street and city names get capitals, and a Dutch postal code is written as 1234 AB. The house number and its addition are read from address line 1, for example "Dorpsstraat 12 A". An empty country means the Netherlands, and names such as Nederland, Belgium or Deutschland are recognised.

The address rules

Warnings that do not block

CodeWhat it means
late_delivery_expectedThe card cannot arrive by its send date and goes with the next run.
waiting_for_fundsThe card waits until your balance or credit covers it; top up to send it.
suppressedThe address is on your suppression list.

During production, PostBuddy renders every card. If a card turns out to have overflowing text (text_overflow), an image that cannot be loaded (image_fetch_failed) or too low a resolution (image_resolution_low), it is taken out of the run, its charge is refunded and it gets Needs attention again.
